Quite literally. This group of modern tastemakers run gift concierge businesses, advising clients on everything from milestone celebrations to just-because gestures. Here, they share their tips so you can achieve expert status, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Be observational<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/present-gift-giving-1919x2560.jpg\" alt=\"how to be a good gift giver\" class=\"wp-image-255260\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9The Luxe Bureau \/ Adam Barclay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cA good gift-giver pays attention long before the occasion arrives. They listen for preferences, notice lifestyle cues, and choose something that feels considered rather than convenient,\u201d says Mandi Ford, director of <a href=\"https:\/\/esconcierge.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ES Concierge<\/a>. \u201cThe best gifts make the recipient feel <em>seen<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She adds that \u201cEmpathy [makes a great gift giver]. Being able to step outside your own taste and imagine what would genuinely delight someone else is the foundation of thoughtful gifting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaste helps, but emotional intelligence is what elevates a gift from nice to memorable. Keep a running mental or physical note of the small things \u2014 favourite brands, passing comments, milestones, or upcoming moments worth celebrating. Gifting becomes effortless when you\u2019re collecting insights all year-round.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Timing is important<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Lucy Sancho, co-founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theluxebureau.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luxe Bureau<\/a>, believes that<strong> <\/strong>\u201cA great gift giver is someone who knows the importance of timing. A gift that arrives at just the right moment and makes the receiver feel instantly special. It signals that someone is with you in a moment that matters, expected or unexpected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart with the moment, rather than the gift,\u201d she says. \u201cAsk yourself what is needed right now \u2013 celebration, comfort, encouragement, gratitude. Then choose a gift that suits that feeling and ensure it arrives as closely to this moment or occasion as possible. When the timing is right, the gesture lands with far more meaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Have stationary at the ready<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/bespoke-gifting.webp\" alt=\"how to be a good gift giver\" class=\"wp-image-255258\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9Colford<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBe organized. Look at your diary a month ahead and keep a stash of beautiful cards, stamps, and gift tags on hand,\u201d says Imogen Beresford, co-founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colford.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colford<\/a>. \u201cA handwritten, short and sweet note is always appreciated. [As is] time spent on wrapping and presentation \u2013 it never goes unnoticed. Theme your wrapping to the recipient and what they would love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To make the recipient\u2019s life easier, she also recommends attaching gift tags securely, so they can easily identify who the gift is from when it comes time to send thank-you notes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Go local<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cA good gift giver values thoughtfulness over spectacle,\u201d says Nathan Cole, co-founder of Colford. \u201cWhen in doubt, something homemade or locally sourced always carries meaning \u2013 the provenance is known, the footprint lighter, and it\u2019s unlikely to be duplicated.
