{"id":3284,"date":"2026-02-13T06:04:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T06:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/facesjournal.com\/?p=3284"},"modified":"2026-02-13T06:04:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T06:04:00","slug":"europes-most-famous-wine-dynasties-just-released-an-ultra-limited-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/facesjournal.com\/?p=3284","title":{"rendered":"Europe\u2019s Most Famous Wine Dynasties Just Released an Ultra-Limited Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Only a dozen exist in the entire world.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/pfv-generations-case-wine-300x216.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-post-image\" alt=\"primum Familiae Vini wines\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Founded in 1992 by Miguel Torres and Robert Drouhin to promote the exchange of ideas, its members include Domaine Clarence Dillon (Ch\u00e2teau Haut-Brion), Famille Perrin (Chateau de Beaucastel) and Alsace\u2019s Famille Hugel, as well as Sassicaia makers Tenuta San Guido, the Douro\u2019s Symington family, Riesling specialists Egon M\u00fcller and Tuscany\u2019s 26<sup>th<\/sup>-generation winemakers Marchesi Antinori.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, all 12 descended on the <a href=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/travel\/destination-guides\/europe\/paris\">Paris<\/a>\u2019s Grand Palais for the launch of the PFV Generations Case, an ultra-limited-edition case of 12 wines \u2013\u00a0one from each family. Treats in the coffret include a 2016 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a 2004 Vega Sicilia Unico, and a Champagne Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2002 (which the house\u2019s 6<sup>th<\/sup>-generation ambassador Bastien Collard de Billy was pouring on the night, and I can report tasted absolutely stellar). To sweeten the deal, each case also includes a VIP visit to every estate, some of which aren\u2019t open to the public. The case is priced at \u20ac32,000 and only a dozen have been created.<\/p>\n<p><em>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/finest-dining\/wines-and-spirits\/trogolo-food-wine-power-couple-west-london\">How Tuscany\u2019s Food and Wine Power Couple Took Over West London<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Considering the calibre of the <a href=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/finest-dining\/wines-and-spirits\">wines<\/a> \u2013\u00a0and many of the guests \u2013 that night, the atmosphere was remarkably convivial. Everyone got stuck into pouring their wines and several also had their (grown-up) children in tow.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/2026-generations-case-wine-2560x1978.jpg\" alt=\"primum Familiae Vini wines\" class=\"wp-image-255557\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9Primum Familiae Vini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere is a camaraderie between us that is precious and unique. It\u2019s a great forum for discussing our concerns,\u201d said Drouhin\u2019s winemaker V\u00e9ronique Boss-Drouhin as she poured a magnum of Joseph Drouhin Corton-Charlemagne 2011. \u201cIn the past the hot topic was transmission [of the business down the generations]; right now, it\u2019s climate change. Next, we\u2019ll be asking: how do we bring AI into it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/finest-dining\/wines-and-spirits\/ai-wine-cellar\">Do You Need an AI Wine Cellar?<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all incredible friends,\u201d agreed Alessia Antinori, who succeeds Clarence Dillon\u2019s Prince Robert of Luxembourg as PFV president in July. \u201cWe share common values and we\u2019re also really interested in getting the next generation involved.\u201d It was great to see so many women in top roles \u2013\u00a0something, Antinori acknowledged, that was much less common in traditional family businesses just a few decades ago.<\/p>\n<p>The incoming generation are also more inquisitive about wines and wine regions outside their immediate vicinity, perhaps more so than they were before, said Jean-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Hugel. \u201cVisiting all the different PFV members, in their different wine regions, is fantastic boot camp for future wine owners.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elitetraveler.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/2026-generations-case-wine-europe-2560x1781.jpg\" alt=\"primum Familiae Vini wines\" class=\"wp-image-255555\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9Primum Familiae Vini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a bid to celebrate family-owned business, PFV also sponsors a bi-annual prize recognizing inter-generational artisans. The new Generations Case features a <em>habillage <\/em>(or outer wrapping) made by 2023\u2019s winner Brun de Vian-Tiran, an 8<sup>th<\/sup>-generation French fine-wool manufacturer so dedicated to its craft it even has its own herd of 25,000 Arles Merino Antique sheep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the launch I also spoke to Takuya Tsutsui, who was representing this year\u2019s winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsutsumi-urushi.com\/en\/\">Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi<\/a>, a lacquer-maker from Japan, that fuses traditional techniques with innovations including a UV-resistant lacquer recipe. Clad in a spiffy checked blazer, bowtie, and ponytail, Tsutsui showed me a skateboard he had embellished with red lacquer and delicate gold paint work.
